Our Diverse Flying Sites, Your Ultimate Learning Experience

Here at High Adventure, we’re passionate about developing confident, safe, and competent paragliding and paramotoring pilots. One of the things that truly sets our training apart is the incredible variety of flying sites easily accessible from our school on the beautiful mid-north coast of NSW.
Our impressive access extends to eleven distinct training and flying sites! This allows us to offer variations in slope, terrain, and wind directions, ensuring our students experience flying in a multitude of conditions for an extensive learning experience. Another key benefit of our diverse locations is that we can make the most of the prevailing weather, moving between sites to find optimal flying conditions and ultimately maximizing your time spent learning practical skills.
Our diverse training environment supports your journey from confidently mastering ground handling, through the unforgettable exhilaration of your initial solo flights, to the ongoing development of your flying skills. Our training fields and gentle sloping sites provide the perfect setting to build a solid foundation in wing control, launching and landing. Our low coastal sites offer soft beach landings and the ideal conditions for learning to soar on coastal winds. As your skills develop, you'll also have the opportunity to experience our high mountain sites, offering exceptional soaring and thermic flights that will profoundly enhance your understanding of flight and develop you into a highly capable pilot.
Here’s a closer look at the incredible places you’ll have the opportunity to train and fly with us:
SITES FOR BUILDING & PRACTICING FUNDAMENTAL FLYING SKILLS
Here you'll learn and practice the essential skills that will set you on the path to becoming a highly skilled and competent pilot.
1) Laurieton Soccer Field
- Drive: A super quick 2-minute drive from our school.
- What to expect: A huge, open grassy area – think of it as your paragliding practice pitch! It’s absolutely ideal for mastering the art of ground handling, getting comfortable with your wing, and learning how to control it on the ground.
- Wind direction: NE to SE.
2) Training Hill
- Drive: A scenic 30-minute drive south, and exclusively ours!
- What to expect: This privately leased gem is a small, gently sloping grassy hill ideal for ground handling and for your first flights. It’s the perfect environment to practice your take-off and landing techniques, whether you're doing forward or reverse launches. The early morning katabatic winds (that gentle flow of air downhill as the ground cools) often grace us here, allowing you to easily clock up 10+ flights in a single session. Repetition is key to building muscle memory and confidence, and this site delivers exactly that!
- Wind direction: SW.
3) North East Bonny Hills (Bartlett’s Beach Reserve)
- Drive: Just 10 minutes north.
- What to expect: A smaller grassy reserve that’s ideal for focused ground handling sessions and even tandem flights, allowing you to experience the joy of sharing the sky.
- Wind direction: NE.
4) Private Paramotor Field
- Drive: About 30 minutes south, another one of our exclusive training grounds.
- What to expect: A flat, wide-open field that’s tailor-made for both ground handling your paramotor wing and taking exhilarating inland powered flights.
- Wind direction: Being a flat field, it’s usable in pretty much all wind directions, giving us great flexibility for training.
COASTAL FLYING SITES
Get ready for stunning views and the thrill of coastal flying! These sites offer the perfect conditions for your first solo flights and progression of your flying skills.
5) Grant’s Beach
- Drive: A quick 10-minute trip north.
- What to expect: A vast, open beach area that's ideal for honing your ground handling skills in a different environment, practicing high flights via towing (where you're gently pulled aloft), and of course, paramotor flights over the stunning coastline.
- Wind direction: NE to S.
6) Indian Head
- Drive: Just a 10-minute drive south of the school.
- What to expect: This coastal headland is perfect for your first high glides and experiencing the magic of ridge soaring (staying aloft by using the wind deflected upwards by the ridge). It features a gentle grassy slope for take-off and the option of either landing on the expansive beach below or practicing top landings.
- Wind direction: SSE.
7) South East Bonny Hills (Grant’s Headland)
- Drive: Another easy 10-minute drive north.
- What to expect: A clear, open headland offering fantastic opportunities for high glides and more advanced ridge soaring. The huge beach below provides a very forgiving landing area, and you can also practice top landings here.
- Wind direction: SSE and ESE.
8) Harry’s Lookout
- Drive: A slightly longer 30-minute drive north, but well worth it for the views!
- What to expect: An easy coastal soaring site with reliable lift. It’s a fantastic place to practice staying airborne and enjoying the stunning coastal scenery. Landings here are beach landings only.
- Wind direction: ENE to ESE.
INLAND MOUNTAIN FLYING SITES
