How Much Does It Cost to Get Into Paramotoring?

If you’ve ever watched YouTube videos of paramotors flying through incredible landscapes, or seen a paramotor cruising along the coastline at sunset and thought “I want to do that”, one of the first questions you’ll probably ask is:

How much does it cost to get into paramotoring?

Like most forms of aviation, there are both training costs and equipment costs to consider. The good news is that paramotoring is one of the most accessible and affordable ways to become a pilot.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s involved.

Paramotor Training Costs

Initial Training

There are two main pathways into paramotoring, depending on your flying experience.

1. Beginner Pilots - 14-Day Learn To Paramotor Course

For people completely new to flying, our beginner-friendly 14-Day Learn To Paramotor Course costs:

  • $5,200 using our training gear
  • $4,500 using your own gear

The course takes students from zero experience to a fully licenced PPG (powered paragliding) pilot and includes:

  • Paragliding fundamentals
  • Ground handling training
  • Launch and landing techniques
  • Powered flight training
  • Radio-assisted flights
  • Safety procedures and flight planning
  • Theory and exams

Students can choose either:

  • Foot Launch Paramotoring, or
  • Wheelbase Paramotoring

depending on their preference and experience level. You can learn more about the difference between foot-launch and wheelbase paramotoring in this blog.

2. Experienced Paragliding Pilots - PPG Endorsement

For existing paraglider pilots who are already PG4 level or above, we offer two different 3-Day PPG Endorsement options:

These endorsements allow experienced free-flying pilots to add powered flight to their existing skill set and gain their SAFA PPG licence.

Both endorsement options cost:

  • $1,500 using our gear
  • $1,200 using your own gear

Advanced Training

Once you first receive your PPG licence, you’re permitted to fly up to 25 nautical miles from launch.

After reaching 20+ hours of total flight time over a minimum of 25 flying days, pilots can complete a Cross-Country Endorsement, which removes distance limits entirely.

At High Adventure, the 2-Day Cross-Country Endorsement costs:

  • $1,000 using our gear
  • $800 using your own gear

This endorsement develops advanced skills in:

  • Navigation
  • Airspace awareness
  • Flight planning
  • Fuel and engine management
  • Weather assessment over distance

For many pilots, this opens up a whole new level of freedom in paramotoring, allowing for longer adventures, greater exploration, and more ambitious flying goals.

Paramotor Gear Cost

New Gear

As a general guide, a brand-new paramotor kit typically costs as follows:

This puts a complete new setup at approximately $23,000 - $24,000.

At High Adventure, students who complete our Learn To Paramotor Course with us receive a $700 discount on a new paramotor gear package.

Second-Hand Gear

Second-hand paramotor gear can sometimes be purchased at a lower cost.

High Adventure occasionally has second-hand gear available, and there are also online marketplaces where used equipment is sold.

However, buyers should be cautious when purchasing second-hand equipment online, as some gear may be:

  • Old or unreliable
  • The wrong size for the pilot
  • Damaged or poorly maintained
  • Unsupported, meaning replacement parts are no longer available

This is especially important for beginner pilots, who may not yet know what to look for when assessing equipment.

Can High Adventure Help With Gear Selection?

Absolutely.

We can provide guidance on both new and second-hand gear before, during, and after training.

This includes helping students choose equipment based on:

  • Pilot weight
  • Skill level
  • Spec preferences
  • Preferred flying style
  • Pilot’s flying sites (e.g. inland or coastal)
  • Local conditions
  • Future progression goals
  • Budget

Choosing the right gear can make a huge difference to your safety, confidence, and overall flying experience.

SAFA Membership Cost

To legally fly a paramotor in Australia, pilots must hold a current membership with Sports Aviation Federation of Australia (SAFA).

During training, students require a SAFA Student Pilot Membership, which currently costs approximately $33.

Once a pilot successfully gains their PPG licence, they then require a SAFA PPG Pilot Membership, which currently costs approximately $455 per year.

This membership includes:

  • Pilot registration and licencing
  • Aviation insurance coverage
  • Access to SAFA flying sites and endorsements
  • Ongoing support and governance of the sport in Australia

Is Paramotoring Worth the Cost?

For many pilots, absolutely.

Unlike a one-off adventure activity, paramotoring is a long-term skill and lifestyle. Once trained and equipped, you have the freedom to explore landscapes from above, enjoy epic cross-country flights, and fly in a huge variety of locations and conditions.

And compared to many other forms of aviation, paramotoring offers an incredible amount of freedom for a relatively accessible cost.
