ADVANCED TOUR BALI 2018

CANDI DASA | BALI

ADVANCED PARAGLIDING TOUR

CANDI DASA

Candidasa is a 3hr drive from Denpasar Airport (Kuta) and is located on the East Coast of Bali. The takeoff is a small terraced site situated on a 250 meter high ridge and landing is on the sandy beach infront of your hotel.

There is no denying that Candidasa is a spectacular site that offers pilots the best of both thermal and dynamic flying. Its not unusual for pilots to reach cloud base at heights exceeding 650-700 metres. The take off in not accessible by car, but local riders will ferry you to the launch for around $4AUD. If you’re up for it, the climb will take you 20-30mins.

MT AGUNG: In 2016 there was a very successful and hike and fly from Bali’s Highest Volcano Mt Agung. We will be attempting to climb Mt Agung on all of the Advanced Courses.

Mt AGUNG VOLCANO HIKE + FLY

Gunung Agung, meaning “Greatest Mountain”, is the highest mountain on the island of Bali and the fifth highest volcano in Indonesia. Agung towers 3,142 metres above sea level and has huge spiritual significance to the people of the island.

Mt Agung is the volcano that erupted ash in December 2017. Its still considered TBA if we will be able to climb it. Seems the eerie prediction that it would erupt have not happened as yet and the volcano has died right back.  We remain hopeful of a successful 2018 climb.

The guided hike up Agung is far harder than the more popular Balinese climb up Gunung Batur and will take about 6 to 7 hours.  The cost of the hike, guide and porter fees are not included in the Advanced Course Fee. Expect to pay around $100 USD for the trek and porter fees.

The ascent usually starts at 10PM, so that you arrive at the top before dawn for the sunrise. A dawn arrival at the top is recommended in order to avoid clouds that typically cover the top from approximately 9 a.m.

Adverse weather conditions develop quickly and warm waterproof clothing is required and should be carried on the climb.

Porters will be used to carry your gear and packs.

Packing Suggestions: Daypack with plenty of water and snacks for the climb.  Head torch, sunscreen  and hat in case you have to walk down, warm clothes, long pants, windbreaker jacket.  Comfy sturdy shoes for walking, camera.

REQUIREMENTS

All pilots must fly with a reserve and are encouraged to fly with a life jacket (supplied) when attempting new manoeuvres. We should add that no pilots have ever thrown their reserve and people really push their limits.

Our aim is not to have you throw your reserve and land in the water, but if something does happen, we have a boat on standby for your safety.

You must be of an intermediate level and MUST have a reserve to join this clinic.

We recommend the use of a Go-Pro (helmet cam etc) for post flight technique analysis and critique.

GETTING THERE

You should aim to arrive in Bali by the 31st of July. In previous years people have arranged group transport with the hotel from the airport to Candidasa. Its almost certain that someone if not a few people will be on your flight that are also on this course. Closer to the time we will help arrange transport.

Keep in contact on Facebook so you can share rides. We can easily organise pick-up if you let us know in advance.
